Why Choose Deer Trails Trophies |
Quality Tanned Capes I do all of my own tanning. Which gives me complete control of the process and individual attention given to each cape during the tanning process. Attention to detail is given during the thinning of the hide. The thinner the hide, the more detail in the mount. I use a commercal Dakota fleshing machine to achieve the thin hide necessary to show the muscle and vein detail you want in your trophy. All of my game head mounts are tanned using Lutan F, the highest quality, longest lasting tanning process available. Lutan F tanned capes are soft, supple and will last a lifetime. Lutan F will not contract and expand the way a dry preserved hide will. Ask your taxidermist how the cape is treated, this will determine the life of your mount. Quality Eyes I use Van Dykes Competition Natural Eyes in all mounts. Each eye is hand painted and features a distinct blue pupil with soft marbelized veining blended throughout. These eyes have lifelike coloration for all species. Nose Detail I use the Speed Septum System to allow for a natural flesh color and textured vein network inside the nasal cavity. My noses are painted, textured and left with a wet look, leaving white hairs white. Ears I use bondo, reinforced with fiberglass for my ears. This allows the flexibility to shape and pose the ears as you desire. It also allows for retension of more of the ear canal and prevents any possible "drumming" of the hide inside the ears. If your mount has split ears, this is the only way to go. Mannikin Prep Game head forms arrive slick, the molds are coated with a slick agent to make release easier. This needs to be completely removed before mounting in order for the hide paste to adhere. The first thing I do is literally torch the entire mannikin. This burns off the release agent and leaves a rough surface that the hide paste redily adheres to. I then add more detail to the face and neck to allow for maximum detail. This may not sound important, but if you don't want your hide pulling away from the form years from now, it is crucial. |
